Lighting in an operating room is considered one of the key elements for the success of surgical procedures performed by doctors. This lighting is achieved through operating lamps which are special lamps designed to illuminate the surgical area, providing bright and uniform illumination focused on the operating table during the surgical procedure.
The main function of operating lamps is to provide adequate lighting during surgery. The light of these lamps must be white because in the operating room the doctor must be able to observe the color of any organ or tissue, as it is an indicator of the condition and health of the patient. This type of lamps must in turn provide hours of bright light without excessively heating the patient or health care personnel involved in the operation.
Operating lamps according to the type of light they emit
Halogen lamps
They are made with halogen gas and quartz glass. They are incandescent and offer a very intense and bright white light. For a long time, they were the best lighting for operating rooms that existed on the market.
Among its advantages, it is worth noting that, with more electric current, they offer a higher illumination and, therefore, a clearer image for the vision of the operating table where the surgeon and all the medical equipment work. Another advantage of this type of lamp is that it reduces energy consumption. Among their disadvantages, we can mention that they increase the temperature in the area where they are used and can also suffer from untimely breakdowns, which is a risk for patients and a disadvantage for the surgeons who can pass the heat, sweat or, even worse, lose, even for a short period, the correct lighting of the area.
LED Lamps
LED lamps provide intense white light without shadows, thus providing optimal lighting in the operating room for the work developed by surgeons and their teams. These lamps have a light emitting diode that distributes the flow of electric current in one direction only, so that the electricity is used much more efficiently and very little of it is needed to achieve a powerful lighting in the operating room.
Like halogen lamps, the light is more intense with more electric current. But these LED lamps, they do not heat up and do not generate as much heat. Another advantage of this type of operation lamps is that they can be touched by hand without risk of burning, and they have a much longer life.
Operating lamps according to the configuration of the assembly
The operation lamps can be placed on the ceiling, wall or floor. Depending on the model of the lamp.
