Laboratory rotators are devices used to mix tubes with fluids such as blood, biological fluids, solutions, among others, to obtain homogeneous suspensions, or that there is dispersion, heat transfer. They are equipment consisting of an electric motor with a drive shaft oriented vertically and attached to a lightly mounted rubber part, or to an arm attached to a moving rack, to mix liquids or prepare solutions and suspensions.

There are a variety of presentations of these devices and they mostly depend on their size and whether their speed is fixed or adjustable. Usually this equipment has a time control which can be adjusted according to the need of the user, similarly some models have a speed control which can be adjusted as required.

Structure of a laboratory rotator

A laboratory rotator is commonly made up of an electric motor with the shaft connected to a cup-shaped rubber piece mounted slightly outside the center, or to a moving rack. The rubber part motor swings quickly in a circular motion. When a test tube is pressed into the rubber cup (or touched to its edge), movement is transmitted to the liquid inside and a vortex is created.

Usually these computers have a system that allows you to configure the speed to adjust this parameter at the convenience of the user. So when the engine is switched on, the rubber part oscillates quickly in a circular motion, and when a test tube or other suitable container is pressed into the rubber cup, the produced movement is transmitted inside the liquid and a vortex is created, thus generating an effective mixture. Laboratory rotators are also designed to consist of 1 or 4 dishes, and can also have a variable speed setting system between 100 and 3,200 rpm and can be adjusted to operate continuously or to operate only when pressure is applied.

Laboratory Rotator Function

A laboratory rotator is perfectly designed to allow a smooth mixing and resuspend with force, cells and liquid components in tubes, with a high degree of efficiency and precision when performing a mixture, characteristic that make them a very useful tool when mixing substances, allowing to save time in the agitation of liquids, and obtaining a more effective agitation process.

They are suitable for clinical laboratories and medical research where the mixing process of the samples must be taken care of effectively, in order to avoid deterioration of the samples, or not to obtain the desired results during the tests.

How is a laboratory rotator used?

A laboratory rotator can be used with one tube or several tubes as needed. This equipment can be used under two modes of operation, continuous rotation and contact rotation. These equipment are usually used in the manufacture of chemicals, cosmetics, food, coatings among others. These are devices that easily fit into small spaces and are fairly simple to move from one place to another.

It is important to note that to start using a laboratory rotator, it must be placed on a stable, level surface near a grounded electrical outlet. A clean, dustless surface is recommended at all times to ensure that the feet of the device are firmly attached to the surface. It is also recommended to leave enough free space on all sides of the unit for proper ventilation. Verify with the switch OFF by connecting the power cord to a grounded power outlet.
