Why Are We Blonde, Dark And Red-Haired?

A group of researchers from Great Britain and the Netherlands, manage to explain how through the genes of a sample comprised by 125 people, the genetic reason could be identified that our hair is brown, blond or red hair, allowing and facilitating the phenotypic investigation of ancient societies, as well as the determination of important members within these, who have managed to transcend genetic mutation to the present.

A type of melanin is responsible for giving pigment to hair, not only of people, but also of animals. According to the BBC, those jobs where twins were used as an experiment, resulted in the production and distribution of this type of pigment being completely hereditary, so the influence of genetics, belonging to close relatives, is part of 97% of the burden to develop, however, only 12 of these genes had been studied and determined for scientific research.

More than 300,000 people of different European nationalities were analyzed under rigorous laboratory tests provided by biobanks in the main cities, in order to have an approximate census of how many people have a certain pigment, not only in their hair, but also in their skin. After comparing the genes present in the samples, they specified that there are at least 124 involved during hair coloring that, to date, had been ignored by science. These allow to see more clearly those tans and redheads, while the results for blond and brown presents greater difficulty.

Another important factor to highlight during the obtained results is the majority presence of blonde women over men, so it is not only a scientific study that would help to understand vitiligo and melanoma on a larger scale, but also a social and emotional factor, cultural and sexual patterns. visit our website HERE
